I think November was the best month of 2017 so far. 💜 A lot of wonderful things happened in my life that made the month memorable, including an incredibly fun weekend in Hikone with my boyfriend and friends. School has been a little busy lately now that the semester is coming to a close. I’m trying to spend time with friends that’ll be leaving in January, and I’m really bummed so many of the people I see daily will be heading back to their home countries. But I suppose that’s just how studying abroad goes! 🤷🏼♀️
Christmas rolled into town the second November started so I’ve been in a festive spirit for the majority of November, but I’m really in one now that December is here! I have plans to go to Nagasaki with my boyfriend from the 23rd until the 25th and I’m really looking forward to seeing the Kingdom of Lights there. 😍✨ It looks absolutely lovely! I’m a huge fan of Japan’s love for illumination displays.
The downside is that I won’t get to spend Christmas with my family this year. I thought that might not be such a bad thing, but the more I think about the state of my home last year compared to the state of it now… I’m a little sad. However, when I expressed these feelings to my boyfriend he told me he’d do his best to provide me with a loving, happy Christmas experience here in Japan so that I’m not too sad about being 5,000 miles away from my family back home. 💖
Among some other lovely things that happened this month — I finally bought a new coat that screams “me”! Japan is getting a little cold these days and since I’m from a city where the lowest temperature during the winter is roughly 35ºF and no one spends much time outside, I don’t have many “heavy” winter jackets.
I’d been walking around in a fairly thin cardigan cover up for the past few weeks when my parents finally asked if I’d bought a new coat to handle the temperatures. They know I’m not the type to spend money on clothes, so they told me to find a coat I loved and it’d be a part of my Christmas present. 🎁
A few days ago I went shopping with my boyfriend at Nishinomiya Gardens to find some clothes for his trip to America and while we were at UNIQLO I ran into this coat. I almost left without buying it but at the entrance of the store I grabbed his arm and turned back for the coat. I just couldn’t leave it. 😭
I especially couldn’t leave it after I tried it on and my boyfriend kept saying, “You’re so beautiful. That coat fits you so well and I absolutely love it.” Compliments are such a confidence boost, eh?
It was around ¥9900 ($88 USD) without tax, but more than worth it. ❤️ I’m so in love with it and everyone complimented me on it today! I’m looking forward to wearing it when I get to see my boyfriend again on December 14th.
I’m also on the hunt for new boots. I only brought heeled boots to Japan, but with all of the walking I’m doing I want a pair of non-heeled boots for the days my feet could use a break or I’m doing a lot of walking. 🚶♀️ I have sneakers, but I find myself reaching for more and more “fashionable” choices. My beat up Converse don’t really fall in that category…
Despite not wanting heeled boots, I have my eyes on a heeled pair of Dr. Martens that I found while browsing for boots online. But they’re roughly $240 USD here in Japan, which is $100 more than their price in America. 😭 Import taxes suck. I saw a Dr. Martens shop while at the mall the other day and even though I’ve always said I don’t like the look of Dr. Martens, after seeing them everywhere in Japan with various outfits, I’ve come to really like the look of them. Unfortunately, they’re extremely expensive. Especially here. Sigh.
I went back to my favorite ramen restaurant again this week, but this time it was with my roommate. 💙 Since my boyfriend is off enjoying various places in America for the next two weeks, I’m taking this time to really relax and spend time with my roommate, some other friends, and kanji (ha ha). I don’t do anything extraneous with my boyfriend (mostly just dinner, shopping, and watching movies in his apartment), but December is going to be a really busy month since the semester is coming to an end. I want to prioritize self care! 👍
I’m closing this post with a current favorite tune! 🎵 I think Charlie Puth might be my favorite “pop” artist at the moment. His songs are catchy, fun, and easy to get in to. “Attention” is definitely my favorite, but he’s got a few jams that frequent my playlists these days.
How was your November? Anything exciting happen? Try any good new foods? 😉
