“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” Maya Angelou, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

Hello, world! みなさん、こんにちは!

The title of this introductory post may seem strange to most of you, but it has a very particular meaning to me. Today — January 11th — the 8th album of my favorite band hit shelves in Japan. The title of the album is “Ambitions,” and I felt that this truly resonated with me and what I want out of 2017 and the rest of my life. It seemed fitting to title the first post on this “rebranded” blog with something that resonates with my feelings about the future. 💪🏻

A Daring Adventure has gone through many phases since it was born in 2015, but two years later it has finally reached a point that feels right. When I initially decided on the name for this blog, I did it with a life well-lived in mind. I wanted this blog to grow with me as I went on adventures both big and small. Unfortunately, at the time I didn’t have the slightest idea what sort of adventures I wanted to take. I was sorely lacking in direction.

So I’m packing up my things in 7 months and heading to Japan!

On September 6, 2017, I’ll leave America behind until August 2018 and trade it for Japan. I’m entering a study abroad program for intensive language study in Osaka, a city roughly four hours southwest of Tokyo and just an hour from Kyoto. I decided on this in July 2016, and I haven’t looked back since. I’m unbelievably excited for this adventure, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you. 😚 No decision has ever felt as right as this decision to go to Japan.

What does that mean for this blog?

I don’t want a “niche” blog.

This blog will be 100% me — my stories, thoughts & opinions, photography, and language journey. It’ll be a place to share my adventures big and small that happen in and outside of Japan, and within that frame I want to share my favorite places and travel tips. I especially want to chat about food, health, and beauty products (I jumped on the Korean skincare regime last October and haven’t looked back!).

Essentially, I want an online space that reflects me as a person.

I hope you will all stick around in the months — and maybe even years — to come. I can’t wait to get this blog running and truly see where it goes along with me and my adventures in the future!

In the mean time, here’s a song from Ambitions that I love to pieces. Take care. 💕

I am so glad you’re blog is back! I somehow missed it when you had it up before, so it’s great you’re making a comeback.

I am so thrilled for you about going to Japan! I love Japan so, so much. You’re going to love it there. While there, you should so visit Seoul via Peach Airlines from Osaka! 🙂 I’ve only been to Osaka, once, but I would like to re-visit again in the future. Btw, you should totally look into playing Hakuouki since a big chunk of the game takes place in Kyoto and they even visit Osaka at one point XD

Nicheless blogs are the way to go. I love my own nicheless blog. I look forward to your posts about anything Japan/Japanese-related, skincare posts, and so on 🙂

Hi there, same with you, I just “rebooted” my blogging (on-and-off since 2003) just last year!

Good luck in Japan, I hope you enjoy your stay there! BTW, where in the US do you live? I am in California

Hi Sydney, how exciting that you’re off to Japan for a study abroad year, you’re so lucky! I hope you enjoy it and learn lots about the language and culture. I think it’s great that your blog is going to be ‘niche-less’. I used to run a book blog and that became really restrictive in the end and I gave up. Now I’ve started again and I’m looking forward to writing about anything I like. It will be exciting to see this blog grow along with your journey! Also, isn’t the Korean skincare regime just wonderful? I started last year and wow my skin has been *so* much better! Good luck with the new blog and your adventures!

I absolutely love ambitions and the ambitious people who work hard to chase after it. It’s always inspiring to see.

Welcome back to the blogging world! Hope 2017 will be a year full of blessings :). The blog name fits you perfectly considering how you’re venturing out to Japan later this year and will face some new adventures. Hope you’ll enjoy all of the good stuff that Japan has to offer! It’s fine not to have niche blog. Do what you want and at the end of the day, you grow with your blog. 🙂

Welcome back! ^^ I love your blog and I can’t wait to read about your trip in Japan. I love travel stories from my friends, honestly because I’m no big traveler as I get home sick all the time. XD

Thank you so much! I used to get home sick while traveling, but now it’s quite the opposite. When I’m home I’d much rather be exploring. I’d rather touch base with home than live there.

I love and prefer nicheless blogs. I tire of niche-oriented blogs because there is often little story there, and everything is on the same subject; it’s too easy for burnout.

I wish you luck on your adventure! Japan sounds like a huge move, but the opportunity seems amazing.
